I have had an M9, M240, M10 and some gorgeous lenses. I love using them, but found that for pressured and time critical work the Q is much better for me. And now there is really good croppability with the Q3 the M's have no place for me any more. I'm guessing others may think the same. There...

Similar for me - the big upgrades on the Q3 are the sensor for much more crop-ability and really usable 28-75 focal range, and the articulating screen. If those are important to you, the Q3 is well worth it.

I’ve had my Q3 for a full year now and I’ve put my likes and dislikes, along with 16 environmental portrait pics, into this review. Enjoy! https://www.skyeatnight.com/blog/leica-q3-one-year-review

Anyone used Swallowtail Printing for books?

Thanks Ed. I have a SumUp card reader which allows me to take contactless payments with the reader, with a QR code, and also by NFC direct on my phone without needing the reader. Amazing stuff. I’ll be using this for face to face sales. No up front fee, just the usual transaction skimming. For...

Anyone used Swallowtail Printing for books?

All good points. I’ve approached the main 2 book resellers in Scotland and both don’t see enough margin in it. The book quality and print cost is too high for them to leave sufficient money in it to donate to the Skye Mountain Rescue Team. Amazon isn’t too bad actually. I was quite surprised...

Anyone used Swallowtail Printing for books?

Not straight to print. I’ve had a set of samples to select ink density for 100%, 95% and 90% densities. I’ve decided to go for 100% as the images are rich and lovely. I’ve had to lighten a few of them in Lightroom to avoid them looking too dark in print. It’s tricky getting monitor brightness...

    Skye At Night book project

The book content is done, and has been uploaded to the printing company. Whoop! Next, I’ll get an unbound proof copy to check through before triggering the first print run. Then it will be onto preparing for pre-orders on Amazon, doing deals with retailers on Skye, and working out whether to...

Ordering day is close. I’m about to order 250 hardback copies of my Skye at Night book. Swallowtail have been great so far.

Things are progressing nicely now. I have my ISBN allocated, my Amazon seller account sorted, and I have finished off all the photography for the book. I've now got too many images so need to do a bit of a cull. Some recent shots that won't be culled: #20 Aurora over Broadford Hospital. This...

Time for another update. The haggis escaped unfortunately, so you'll have to put up with the following: #16: Here's the kit I'm using for this project. Basically, the smaller and lighter, the better. Firstly, the Leica Q3 (1) is a very small and high quality instrument that handled the majority...

Anyone used Swallowtail Printing for books?

I’m likely to give them some business for a book project. I’m about to get some hardback samples done (150-ish pages) ahead of a print run of several hundred to start with. Wondering if anyone has used them.

A quick note on the Leica Q3. I got mine on launch day (from Red Dot after getting on the list many months prior). I’ve been using it extensively for a book project I’m doing. It is a stunningly good camera. For the people pictures I’m doing it is just superb. I am usually pairing it with...

Many thanks - I'll see if I can rustle up a piper. Great idea. Either a piper or a captive haggis.
