I've seen a couple of "from the hip" YouTube videos recently, and I'm not sure I get it! Videos about shooting without looking! I've been shooting from the hip for years, ever since they invented tilt screens: you just hold the camera down and look down at the tilted up screen.

A thing I'm yet to try is Zone or Snap focusing.

Works well for me on the GRiii - snap focus set at 2.5m and otherwise around 1/400th/f4.
Might be more challenging with the GRiiix ... I've been trying with crop 35mm & 50mm and had lots of misses (I generally shoot from about waist height if being discreet).

You're better off cropping in post, improve on your composition too.

Trouble is no flip up screen means you've got to hold the camera out away from your body.

I've been thinking about getting a GRiiix as well, so trying to 'simulate' it and see if it would work for me.

I just hold it close and aim!
