WAMT....what annoyed me today!

I'll give that a try, Heather. Have you used it yourself? If so, was it just the spray or did you use the adult trap(s) as well?
I just used the spay which was very effective but you need to remember to do it regularly to break the life cycle. Comes with full instructions.

Ordered! Will treat as soon as it arrives then just before we head off on hols.

Arrived just as I was heading out so didn't spray until I got home. After a couple of hours, the caterpillars we could find seemed a lot less active than they were at the same time yesterday (Mrs Nod put on the Murder Glove yesterday evening and was squishing them [while making girlie "Yeuch!" noises!] and they were wriggling a lot - hardly moving this evening.) Of course, that could be because they're about to pupate but I'm preferring to think that the spray is doing its job! Tomorrow evening will be raking the bush to dislodge as much damaged stuff as possible, hopefully along with some pupae!

Oddly, the lady next door has a small (20cm diameter sphere) box in a pot just outside her front door - 15m from our bush (about 2m diameter) and hers has no sign of damage! I sprayed it for her as a precaution and will treat it when I do ours again.

WAMT? Watching a programme about the smart motorways.

Not only a waste of money; not only incompetently designed and built; not only relying on unreliable electronics; but on top of all that actually harming the users! Isn't it time for us to demand laws to prosecute the politicians and civil servants who make and implement these stupid ideas?

I've followed an American folk/country artist for decades and I've bought all of their albums so I was very pleased to see a new one out after quite a long time. Unfortunately the album contains contentious lyrics and it's going straight back as one listen was more than enough and Gosh forbid Mrs WW should hear it as one particular phrase is used which both she and I view as being extremely racist and indeed she was once reduced to tears by that phrases use. One term in common use is "woke" and indeed that word was used in the write up on Amazon but I didn't give it enough weight given the artists previous output.

My Amazon review was "X Goes Woke" and unsurprisingly it's not allowed as it contains...
  • Profanity
  • Harassment
  • Hate speech
  • Sexual content
  • Illegal activity
  • Private information
I don't believe my review was any of the above as the only contentious word in my review seems to be "woke" and that word is used in the description on Amazon but I'm not surprised it hasn't been posted.

Politics, protest and the issues of the day are common themes in some music and indeed this artist has covered societal issues in the past but this album includes themes and phrasing (and that phrase) which wouldn't be out of place at a student protest or BLM rally and I find it a bit odd for an artist of their age. The album just seems such a departure from anything before it but maybe they're trying to appeal to a younger audience. This is something they've tried before but in a different way, it didn't really work and they returned to their usual output for subsequent albums. I've toned down the one star review by removing the word "woke" and reposted it. I do think that potential buyers should be aware of the contentious political I would argue racist content.

WAMT (Well last week actually but I left it a bit to "calm down"!) Impatient folks on flights. Unbuckling before the plane had stopped to get at overhead luggage lockers! There aren't any doors open, there are no steps to the aeroplane, Your main luggage is locked in the hold, there isn't a bus to get you to the terminal yet????? Oh dear! Then they flip their phones horizontal and "shout" their way through the terminal, bouncing small children and OAPs off their "wheelie" cases!

I'm one of those that leaps up and stands in the aisle...... not that I'm in a rush to get off, for the simple reason of suffering back pain after sitting for over 7 hours on a flight I need to get up and have a stretch...

What I find annoying with flying is when a flight is being boarded by zones is those who try to queue jump when it isn't their turn.... Thanks to frequent flier status I get priority boarding.

Arca Swiss (France) have invoiced me 72 euros for a replacement part, happy with the invoice (y)

Went to my bank online, no local banks, but to transfer money to foreign account I have to call them, first thought is listening for an hour to how I am a valued customer , agents are busy, try online, blah blah.
Looked at Western union , PayPal and. a few others and as far as I can see I can only transfer to a personal account but not a business.
and another thing - I should have put this post in WAMT

Being charged 5% to use my credit card to buy holiday euros from Tesco! I paid it off straight away too. I should have taken cash out of my current account but never twigged!

20 years ago I stopped changing currency in the UK because it's a rip off..... Flying out to Thailand on Sunday and I take cash and get my money changed at FX booths that offer rates that are very close to the actual FX rate, a fair bit higher than the rate offered in the UK.

I use the Xe app on my mobile to keep an eye on FX rates and it updates rates every 60 seconds.

We did our holiday Monopoly yesterday too. Got the Tui shop to match their online rate which gained us €66 on the deal. Paid with a debit card to avoid the cash advance charge that a credit card attracts.

I just use my virgin money debit card to withdraw cash from banks when away, they (virgin money)don’t do foreign currency so compensate with no charges and great rates. Carry a Santander card too just in case, in some places it’s like using it here but rates not as good.

My bold: I'll bear that in mind..In February we got a call from the Tui agent, here in town, asking if we wanted euros. We booked the holiday through Tui. I checked online for their exchange rate and it was 1.16. I was in town the following day and thought I'd get some cash. When I got home and checked the receipt the rate was 1.01.Bascially, 1 Euro for one pound. I was annoyed with myself as I'm usually on the ball with this sort of thing. I just Goggled "Tui Euro exchange rate" . I've just done that now and it's showing 1.1464. and no mention that that is their online rate and it's different in the shop. We spent very little cash. Didn't need to as the hotel meals were excellent. We just got a ham or tuna roll at lunchtime if we were out or ordered one poolside which was charged to our account for settlement at the end of the holiday.

Btw. I don't know if you can recall but it was 1.40 Euros to the pound just before th 2016 Brexit vote,. The lowest since is 1.06. Euros.

WAMT was Dawlish Warren's car park trying to charge for parking a motorcycle. Sodom! We carried on a couple of miles and had a better lunch at the Smugglers Inn between Dawlish and Teignmouth.

I used to buy boxes of Magnum milk chocolate and white chocolate boxes of ice cream. £2.80 for four in a box. Often on offer at £2 so I always waited buying enough at £2 to last until the next offer. Then I started making our own ice cream so I haven't bought Magnums for a while until yesterday. They were on offer down to £2.50 from £3.25 . Prices have increased, across the food spectrum so £2.50 was ok. I fancied having a variety of ice cream rather than just the home-made vanilla and Baileys so I bought a box of each. To make room in the freezer earlier this evening I took the ice creams out of their boxes box. Three in each box ?? I'm sure there used to be four. I Googled it. Here's the result. People were asking why only three ice creams now ?

Here's what Unilver..the makers said.

"The price of our ingredients. And that's why we've had to make some changes to our ice cream packs. To give all our pleasure seekers a pack size that suits their needs and budget you will now find your favourite Magnum flavours available in either 3 stick and 6 stick packs. What they failed to say...of course..was that they'd increased the price of these three -pack ice creams compared to the previous cost when there were four in a box.

Another result, this time from 'This is money" and under the heading 'shrinkflation. " Last year..(ie 2022 ) the size of the chocolate ice creams was cut from 110ml to 100ml without any corresponding fall in shelf price. Magnum maker Unilever has blamed cutbacks on the soaring price of ingredients and raw materials.

Lidls own brand are delicious and only £1.59 for 6! Get yourself down to your nearest Lidls @JohnC6 :)

I parked in Bath a few weeks ago. My car isn't new, but it's still fine for the clean air zones etc To my surprise, the charge wasn't a set fee per hour as has always been the norm.... Now there is a variable charge per hour based on the cars emissions.... And don't waste time trying to find street parking. Everywhere is controlled zones, all day, 7 days a week.

Several weeks I renewed our broadband/phone contract, broadband all good on change over day, phone not working, many hours on phone calls and promises of “it’ll be connected this time” have resulted in sweet fa, now I was told problem with renewal contract done in store, can get a line connected but it’ll be a new number-old number since 1980-point of keeping it was point of contact for elderly relatives who don’t “do mobile numbers” so I gave up, mobile only now. Guy on phone recommended never renew in store as time is money and far too many mistakes happen, commission driven sales and no recorded calls to back customers up. Compo of 61/2 months free in contract but I may go elsewhere next time after many years of simple “best deal” renewal.

My local Tesco is in the process of moving everything. Why do they do this? There's never any advantage that I can see and all they do is p$$$ people off. Lots of people were wandering around muttering about not being able to find stuff. I had a difficult time as I take an elderly person with poor mobility and failing eyesight shopping and it was all just needlessly tiring for them.

It's a marketing ploy, whilst you are wander about looking for what you want, you may see things you didn't realise you wanted ;)

Or they hope while you wander about looking for what you want, you may see things you don't want but buy them anyway:)

Confirmed to me by a store manager, don’t want people coming into store and simply heading for a particular aisle and then straight back oot store.

Thai Sticky Rice

It's not the rice itself that's annoyed me. The only ones I've been able to get hold of are ready cooked and they're awful. Thought I'd found some on Waitrose, but as soon as I booked a delivery slot, it came up as "not available at your store"

Finally found it on Asda. They're probably my least favourite supermarket but, in this case , beggars can't b e choose rs.

Get some of this and use it regularly, targets the little b*****s but doesn't harm anything else!

Follow up...

Did a second treatment a few days ago and Mrs Nod has just been out with the "Murder Glove" on a squishin' mishin'. Only found 1 groggy caterpillar and one very dry cocoon. I'll do another spray in a couple of weeks and see what's left when we get home in late June.

Bread and milk towards the back of store for the same reason
That’s why the vegetables and fruit is usually the first thing you see when you enter the store. Looks very appealing to your eye, and very tempting ;)

Not to mention the fresh bread baking smell pumped throughout the store.

Me and Mrs WW planted tulips on a relatives grave. We waited and watched as we walked to church over the weeks and we saw every one brake through the soil and grow and then produce buds. Today I was hoping to see a nice display but all but two had been picked. I assume the two that are left hadn't opened when the rest were picked. They have been picked rather than falling over or being blown over as I could see the snapped stems and there was nothing on the ground.

Not once in my life has the thought of picking flowers from a grave crossed my mind and I do wonder who would do this. Another question, can't we have anything in this world without it being stolen or vandalised?

Hopefully next year or at least one year the thieves will leave the flowers alone and there can be a nice display on the grave.
Civilisation is going backwards. I think my generation have had the best of it.

I talked about thefts from graves in another place and was surprised to find that it is commonplace. Some people reported giving up on flowers and instead leaving artificial flowers which were also stolen.

I've changed my views on the direction of society and the future now. I used to worry about it and wonder just what the gosh is going on but I'm much more relaxed now and if the path we seem to be on is the way people (particularly the young) want to live then I'm all for it and they can live with the consequences.

I'm afraid I disagree. I think it's our duty to save them from themselves.

Not today. My wife came back from Morrisons and the veg shelves were completely empty so she had to buy mixed frozen veg She even took a photo of them to show me.

But how? Try and talk someone out of committing an anti social act (if you see them) and you'll likely get verbal abuse at best and as the police and courts are largely absent or disinterested what else is there that can be done?

As a community, I think we need to go back to setting standards and enforcing them. Start at schools. Go back to saying NO, thats not allowed. No explanation, only, " because I said so".
Rules, and consequences for breaking them.

That'd be labelled "far right" on day one and teachers would probably en masse refuse to do it.

I think we've got years of this until the Marxists completely take over and enforce their own version of order. The future is theirs, good luck to them :D

We all need to understand that "standards" are strictly local and one man's "standards of behaviour" are another woman's "dictatorship".

Tolerance isn't a trendy lefty catchword but the only way people can rub along together, in an increasingly crowded world.

Well you can be tolerant of people s***ting in the street and not forming orderly queues at bus stops etc etc if you like. Me. Not so much.
How you make that a left/right thing I have no idea.

Unfortunately I think you're correct. Happily, I won't see it. While I'm here though I will do what I can to stop it.

What tosh.

Firstly my post about not being antisocial being labelled as "far right" by lefty teachers unwilling to say "No" was a lighthearted post as this isn't the hot topic thread, but just to be clear we do all know it would be labelled "far right" don't we :D

Secondly, there's nothing dictator like about expecting flowers on a grave to remain in place and unstolen. Not stealing from graves is just decent moral behavior. No one is stealing bread to feed their starving children robbed of a future by Brexit in this chain of events. Not stealing from graves would be one good step towards rubbing along nicely in an ever crowded UK.

Thirdly we aint seen nothing in the UK's recent history anything like what life would be like under a dictatorship but if those trendy "literal communists" on social media and in the UK's schools, universities and institutions get their way it'll be fun seeing the real world consequences for them if the real Marxists get their chance :D Thankfully the wider UK public will tolerate useful idiots and middle class fantasists but are very unlikely to vote for the real thing.

Sold a fly rod on FB marketplace, buyer paid on collection and rushed off
2 hours later got a DM from him accusing me of selling him a broken 3 piece rod
When I messaged him back to tell him it was a 4 piece rod, rather than apologise he blocked me

You should think yourself lucky you got past the “is this still available” stage.
